I've always been interested and fascinated with oil painting. At the same time, I have feared it's secrets and techniques. I grew up with acrylics and know them well. Oil painting always seemed too complex for me to properly achieve the effects and styles I wanted. I couldn't have been more wrong. There are many advantages to the artist in oil painting. Acrylics have a really fast drying time. you need paint retarder to help prolong the drying time and even to blend and mix colors to get a nice flow of gradient contrast. With oil painting it's all in the paint. The colors bend, warp, and flow with your brush helping achieve moods and atmospheres you never dreamed of. The paint stays wet for days. Can you imagine the possibilities that are open to you in oil painting when the drying time allows plenty of room for changes and additions. You can look on your work until inspiration finally comes.
