Oil paintings are alive!

I'll never forget the first time I went to the local museum to see a series of oil paintings. They ranged from portraits and landscapes to still life and abstract. The average canvas was six feet by 10 feet. These oil paintings hung huge like portals to other dimensions. I could not believe the realism the artists were able to achieve in those oil paintings. The figures stood like real people posing for a portrait. Some of these oil paintings made you feel your were looking with the eyes God into the everyday lives of people. The fact they were alive made me feel that more alive. I walked away inspired just at the young age of twelve. I knew that oil paintings of that scale and grandeur were in my future, and I would never look at acrylic paints the same way again. Acrylic paintings looked like crayon drawings while oil paintings were like summoning new life from nothing.
